RESULTS

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 25, 2019) –
A trio of Northern Arizona women's tennis players remained unbeaten will compete in the semifinals at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships after Friday's action in Las Vegas. Senior Chiara Tomasetti moved one step closer towards a second straight championship appearance, while sophomore Adrianna Sosnowska and freshman Mimi Bland continues to make noise in the doubles draw.

Sosnowska and Bland will be the only unseeded pair among the four semifinal duos following a pair of victories on Friday. The Lumberjacks' tandem began the day with an 8-4 victory over Nevada's Liza Mintusova and Roos Van Reek in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Sosnowska and Bland knocked off Utah's Madeline Lamoreaux and Lindsay Hung by an 8-5 score.

Meanwhile in the singles main flight, Tomasetti notched her fourth consecutive straight-set victory of the regional tournament against New Mexico's Bronte Murgett. Tomasetti dispatched Murgett, 6-3, 6-2, to continue her quest towards a second consecutive Mountain Regional singles title.

The Lumberjacks nearly placed two doubles pairs in the semifinals, but Tomasetti and sophomore Emilie Haakansson's run reached an end in the quarterfinals. After Tomasetti and Haakansson defeated New Mexico's Hsiang-Wen Huang and Alisia Manolescu, 8-3, they squared off against the tournament's sixth-seeded pair from Utah. NAU's pair fell to No. 55 Madison Tattini and Whitney Hekking, 8-3.

In extra singles matches outside of the main draw, NAU combined to go 3-3 with Haakansson, Bland and senior Sydney Roman picking up singles wins. Haakansson defeated Colorado's Monica Malinen, 7-6, 6-3, while Bland posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nevada's Selina Turulja. Roman also cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Alexandra Ngo of Southern Utah.

NAU's three semifinalists will play for a spot in the finals on Saturday. Tomasetti, the top-seed and ranked No. 71 nationally, will get another chance at fifth-seeded Tattini in the singles draw. Sosnowska and Bland will take on the top-seeded and No. 53 ranked pairing of Sara Nayar and Malinen in the doubles draw.
