Chiara Tomasetti will compete on the international stage this upcoming weekend as part of Team Germany at the 2019 Master'U BNP Paribas International Collegiate Team Competition. The eight-team tournament will take place in Grenoble, France from Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
The 14th annual Master'U BNP Paribas will include six-member teams (three male, three female) from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy and the United States. The United States are the defending champions and they have won eight total titles.
Tomasetti, a native of Roesrath, Germany, is the only active NCAA player on her home country's team. She currently holds her highest ranking in Germany sitting at No. 47.
"When they reached out to me and asked if I wanted to play, I got super excited," Tomasetti said. "I'm excited to play for my home country and to play with people I know."
The three-day bracket styled tournament consists of seven matches per round with two women's singles matches and two men's singles matches. Three doubles matches (one women's, one men's and one mixed) are also contested in the best-of-seven format with the winning country advancing.
At last year's event, Germany placed third behind the United States and Great Britain. Germany has placed third in three of the last four years.
Tomasetti will head into the tournament coming off a highly successful fall season, which ended with her ranked No. 57 in the Oracle ITA National Rankings. Tomasetti posted a 13-5 record in the fall and competed at the Oracle ITA Masters, ITA All-American Championships and the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. She notched a pair of nationally-ranked wins and defended her Mountain Regional singles championship.
"I've practiced so much the last two years and I feel like I'm ready for these types of opportunities," Tomasetti said. "It's going to be high-level but I know I can compete."
