Women’s Tennis’ Tomasetti Rallies for Three-Set Victory on Day Two in Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (November 7, 2019) – The Northern Arizona women's tennis duo of sophomore Adrianna Sosnowska and freshman Mimi Bland fell in the second round at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Thursday, but senior Chiara Tomasetti rallied for a singles victory in the consolation bracket in day two action in Newport Beach.

Following a dramatic three-set upset of the No. 7 seeded pair on Wednesday, Sosnowska and Bland faced California's Anna Bright and Haley Giavara with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals. However, Sosnowska and Bland's run in the main draw came to an end with the Golden Bears' tandem recording a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Meanwhile in the singles consolation draw, Tomasetti took on Kentucky's Lesedi Jacobs looking to bounce back from her first round loss to No. 14 seeded Michaela Gordon of Stanford. Jacobs easily claimed the first set, 6-1, but Tomasetti answered with a 6-3 win in the second set. Tomasetti punctuated the comeback with a resounding 6-1 third set victory.

With the win, Tomasetti moves on to face No. 114 ranked Taylor Bridges of LSU on Friday at 11:30 a.m. MST at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.
