FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (December 5, 2019) – Northern Arizona University senior tight end
Joey Gatewood has been selected to the 2019 Big Sky Community Service Team.
In its inaugural year, the award recognizes football student-athletes who have dedicated their time to helping others and have gone above and beyond in making an impact on their campus and community.
The Community Service Team is made up of one individual football player from each of the league's 13 competing institutions. Award winners were nominated by their respective head coaches.
Gatewood saw action in 10 games this season and hauled in 21 receptions for 313 yards. He had a long catch of 43 yards in the season opener vs. Missouri State and posted a career-best 96 yards on eight grabs at Montana State. For the season, Gatewood tallied multiple catches in five games.
The 13 honorees include seven seniors, four juniors, one sophomore and one freshman. Amongst the group is Montana senior linebacker Dante Olson, who was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his community service efforts. The linebacker is also a finalist for the 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy.
