OGDEN, Utah (April 3, 2019) – Northern Arizona women's tennis freshman
Adrianna Sosnowska picked up her first Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week award on Wednesday following an unbeaten 4-for-4 performance last Saturday against Portland State and UTEP. She is the first league freshman to earn the award this season.
Sosnowska earned her first career honor from the conference office after having a direct hand in the Lumberjacks' first two shutout victories of the season. Along with junior
Chiara Tomasetti – a four-time Big Sky Player of the Week award winner this spring herself – Sosnowska tallied the doubles point clinching victory in both matches. She also clinched the victory with her singles win against UTEP.
In doubles, Sosnowska and Tomasetti notched a pair of 6-2 victories versus Portland State's Jacinta Milenkoski and Nina Nikitovic and UTEP's Yvette Van Oijen and Kathleen Percegona. The two doubles point clinching victories at No. 1 initiated the Lumberjacks' victories over Portland State and UTEP by match scores of 7-0 and 4-0 respectively.
The frosh from Lodz, Poland posted her first of two singles victories by a 6-4, 6-1 margin at No. 4 against Eszter Zador, who had had entered the match with a Portland State leading 6-2 singles record. Sosnowska then secured the Lumberjacks' blanking of UTEP with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Van Oijen at the No. 3 position.
Her perfect showing in NAU's doubleheader last Saturday improved her singles record to 10-4 and doubles record to 9-6.
The 'Jacks will host Weber State this Saturday at 3 p.m. and Southern Utah on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.
