LAS VEGAS, Nev. and MALIBU, Calif. (September 27, 2019) – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team opened up the UNLV Fall Invitational with three singles and three doubles victories on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Sophomore

Sydney Roman and freshman
Elinor Beazley won both their singles and doubles matches on the first day of competition in Las Vegas.
Sosnowska and Roman won in straight sets, while Beazley battled back from a first set loss to win in three sets. Sosnowska competed in Flight One and defeated Long Beach State's Natalia Munoz, 6-4, 6-4, to earn her fifth singles win of the fall in six matches.
Beazley and Roman notched wins in Flight Three with the pair of Lumberjacks knocking off their UNLV opponents on their home court. After dropping the first set in a tiebreak, Beazley proceeded to win the next two sets soundly in a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rachel Lee. Meanwhile, Roman dispatched Sara Alajbegovic, 6-3, 6-4.
NAU went undefeated in doubles with two of its three duos winning in Flight One. Sosnowska and freshman
Mimi Bland blanked Lalita Devarakonda and Munoz, 8-0, in their opening match of the UNLV Fall Invitational. Sophomore
Emilie Haakansson and Beazley dispatched Daniela Cozzi and Zoe Tanti of Southern Utah by an 8-3 score.
In Flight Two, junior
Madi Moore made her fall debut and paired with Roman for NAU's second win of the day over a Southern Utah duo. Moore and Roman combined for an 8-4 win over Alex Ngo and Jessica Stefan.
While the 'Jacks were taking care of business in Las Vegas, senior
Chiara Tomasetti's run at the Oracle ITA Masters came to an end on Friday in the second round of the singles main draw. Tomasetti fell to Virginia's Natasha Subhash – the tournament's top overall seed – by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
"Chiara played one of the best players in the country and she played her tough," said graduate assistant coach
Jordan Gobatie. "There were a ton of tough games and tight points which we can learn from. It's still very early in the fall season and we have a lot of room to grow. I'm looking forward to what Chiara can do moving forward."
Sosnowska, Beazley and Roman will all compete in their respective flight semifinals on Saturday, while all three of NAU's doubles teams will also play for a spot in the finals. Saturday's day two action at the UNLV Fall Invitational will begin at 10 a.m.
