LAS VEGAS, Nev. (September 28, 2019) – Sophomore
Adrianna Sosnowska earned a hard-fought three-set win to advance to the Flight One Singles championship match and highlight the Northern Arizona women's tennis team's day two action at the UNLV Fall Invitational. Sosnowska was one of three 'Jacks to pick up a singles victory on Saturday.
Facing UNLV's En-Pei Huang on the Rebels' home court at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, Sosnowska did not back down, even after dropping the first set. Instead, Sosnowska battled back for a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory and will face another Rebel, Izumi Asano, on Sunday for the Flight One title.
Sophomore
Emilie Haakansson and freshman
Mimi Bland rebounded from first round losses to notch consolation victories on Saturday. Haakansson dominated Delaware's Caragh Courtney, 6-3, 6-0, in Flight One, while Bland defeated Southern Utah's Jessica Stefan, 6-4, 7-6, in Flight Two.
A pair of Long Beach State players denied senior
Sydney Roman and freshman
Elinor Beazley from reaching the championship in Flight Three. Lalita Devarakonda handed Roman a 6-3, 6-3 loss. Meanwhile, Sadaf Sadeghvaziri pushed past Beazley in their three-set semifinal match, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
Sosnowska and Bland came up short to UNLV's Huang and Asano, 8-3, in the doubles semifinals of Flight One. Haakansson and Beazley wound up with a similar fate in an 8-5 loss to Samantha Li and Connie Li of UNLV, setting up the two Rebels tandems to play for the final.
The Lumberjacks managed to snag one doubles win on Saturday though, with junior
Madi Moore and Roman cruising to an 8-2 win over UNLV's Rachel Lee and Hsuan-Yu Lin.
The 'Jacks wrap up the UNLV Fall Invitational on Sunday with play beginning at 10 a.m.
