FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 7, 2019) - The Northern Arizona University women's golf team will begin its 2019 fall season on Sept. 9-10 at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic hosted by Utah Valley in Springville, Utah.Â
The Lumberjacks will face a two-day/54-hole tournament. The field will play two rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday. Teams will tee-off between 7:30-9:20 a.m. MT on Monday off of holes one and 10, while action will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT on Tuesday.
NAU will be competing against host Utah Valley as well as four Big Sky Conference teams to tee off the new year. Big Sky schools competing will consist of Northern Colorado, Portland State, Southern Utah and Weber State.
Last season a young NAU squad took fifth-place at Hobble Creek, with many of them being true freshmen from around the globe. NAU's top individual finisher wasÂ
Aleksandra Chekalina as she ended the tournament in ninth place. The 'Jacks will be entering the season with two freshmen added to the team in
Alyza Flores and
Lorel Hayward.Â
Chekalina,
Ashley Croft and
Elle Kocourkova will each begin their sophomore campaigns at Hobble Creek.
Sara Padilla and
Lexi Keene will start their junior seasons' on Monday.
Emma Reyes,
Loren Skibba and
Morgan Messick will make up the senior class for 2019. Messick will be returning to the course for her first action since 2015-2016.
The Lumberjacks are coming off of a strong off-season filled with their golfers having competed all around the globe. Croft won the Dunbar Ladies Open Championship which was held at the Dunbar Golf Club in Dunbar, Scotland. This will be the first of five fall tournaments for NAU.
