FARMINGTON, Utah (January 15, 2020) – It took freshman
Mimi Bland just one week into the spring season to earn her first career Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week award following a perfect season-opening Hawai'i Weinman Foundation Invitational.
Bland was the only Lumberjack to go 2-0 in both singles and doubles play as the Northern Arizona women's tennis team competed in Hawaii during the first week of the spring campaign last week.
Bland collected singles wins over a pair of Power Five opponents, defeating and Louisville's Maia Haumeuller and Washington State's Maddie Egan. Both of Bland's singles wins came in straight sets as she derailed Haumeuller, 7-5, 6-3, and Egan, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, Bland and sophomore
Adrianna Sosnowska lived up their No. 25 national rank by besting a pair of Hawai'i tandems on their home court. After Bland and Sosnowska pulled out a 7-6(3) tiebreak win over Lea Romain and Bojana Markovic, they cruised to a 6-2 victory over Nikola Dolakova and Petra Melounova.
The Lumberjacks head to Tempe this Sunday to take on Arizona State at 2 p.m.
