Diving Takes Second and Third on 3-Meter Day 1 of Lumberjack Diving Invite

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 31, 2020) – Northern Arizona's divers Jenny Cheetham, Emily Sharrer and Emily Luberto took on San Diego State and the University of Idaho on the 3-meter dive day one of the Lumberjack Diving Invite.

"I was really happy with how they competed," head diving coach Nikki Huffman said. "All three of them really well. They were really strong and competitive and that is what we want right now. We just will have to fine tune things for conference."

In the preliminary dives, Cheetham placed second with a tally of 302.50, behind SDSU's Ximenia Lechuga Gonzalez (332.60). Cheetham posted another second-place finish in the finals with a score of 313.90. Lechuga Gonzalez kept her first-place spot, finishing out 359.15.

Sharrer jumped from fifth place in the prelims to finish third in the finals, starting with a 297.40 score and ending 308.15. For Luberto, she finished seventh with a 269.50 preliminary tally, moving up to sixth in the finals at 270.50.

Compared to WAC opponent Idaho, Cheetham and Sharrer would place first and second, with the Vandals' Heather Carbon (277.00) in third. Luberto would have rounded out to fourth, finishing ahead of UI's Hailey Faith (214.95) and Allison Shimp (201.45).

"We're small, but mighty," Huffman said.

The second day of the Lumberjack Diving Invite begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the 1-meter dive. Later, at 2 p.m., the 'Jacks will compete on the platform.
