FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 9, 2020) - Northern Arizona University's track & field program will start its 2020 indoor season on Friday, Jan. 10th, at the Friday Night Duals meet in Flagstaff at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. The meet is expected to begin at 2:00 P.M. (MST) with the men's and women's pole vault, long jump and shot put competitions. Admission is free to attend.
The preseason rankings for the 2020 indoor track and field campaign debuted Wednesday and had the Lumberjack men slated as the No. 26 in the country. The preseason rankings are based on returning student-athletes and their personal-record times and marks, meaning they do not take freshmen and relay squads into account. NAU will have an extremely young team in 2020 in the sprints, hurdles and jumps categories.Â
The NAU men also enter the 2020 indoor season as Big Sky Conference preseason favorites to win the conference title in Pocatello; The 'Jacks are heavy favorites on the men's side after receiving nine first-place votes and totaling 119 points. Northern Arizona's women's team placed second in the poll with four first-place votes and 108 points overall.

- Finished 13th at NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships
- Luis Grijalva, Distance, 5000m - No. 8 Nationally (13:40.35c)
- Finished 14th at NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships
- Geordie Beamish, Distance, Mile - Defending Men's Indoor Mile National Champion (PR: 3:57.99c)
- Ranked 25th nationally in the Men's 3000m Run & 20th nationally in the Men's 5000m Run
- Parker Joens, Throws, Shot Put - Defending Big Sky Conference Outdoor Champion in shot put (placed 4th at indoor conference in 2019)
- Placed 38th at the 2019 NCAA Division I West Regional Preliminary Rounds in the shot put during the outdoor season
- Kevin Cooney, Throws, Weight Throw - Defending Big Sky Conference Indoor Champion in the weight throw (19.92m)
- Five top-three performances in the weight throw during the 2019 indoor season
- Cameron Rayford, Jumps, Long & Triple Jump - Placed third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump at 2019 Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships

- Helena McLeod, Jumps, Long Jump - 2018 Big Sky Conference Indoor champion in the women's long jump (6.10m)

Many of NAU's potential key contributors for the 2020 indoor season came to campus this past fall and are projected to make major impacts this year in the distance, throws, jumps and sprints events.
This Friday's season-opening meet – Friday Night Duals – will see only a select group of Lumberjacks open the year in their primary events. Notable events to watch will include the 3000m races, the team relay events and the opening field competitions.
