LAS VEGAS, Nev. (February 18, 2020) – The Northern Arizona golf team finished the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate at 51-over par 915 (305-297-313) after carding a final round 313 on Tuesday at Spanish Trail Country Club.
"It wasn't a very good round for us today," said head coach
Brad Bedortha. "But it was good to get back into competition and this will help us be prepared for this weekend's tournament at Grand Canyon."
The Lumberjacks placed 11th on the team leaderboard with No. 3 USC winning the tournament with a 25-under par 839 (284-274-281). USC's Gabriela Ruffels earned individual medalist honors at nine-under par 207 (68-68-71).
Sophomore
Aleksandra Chekalina was NAU's top individual finisher at nine-over par 225 (77-73-75). Chekalina's final round 75 moved her up to a tie for 28th overall. Chekalina finished the tournament with 42 pars, which only trailed the 44 by Long Beach State's Maria Davis.
Three Lumberjacks – seniors
Morgan Messick and
Emma Reyes and sophomore
Ashley Croft – fired six-over par 78 in Tuesday's third round. Messick was the Lumberjacks' next highest finisher in a tie for 47th at 16-over par 232 (79-75-78).
Reyes, who competed as an individual, was tied for 49th along with Croft and freshman
Alyza Flores at 17-over par 233. After shooting 12-over par 84 on the final day, sophomore
Elle Kocourkova was tied for 55th at 18-over par 234 (77-73-84).
Flores posted a team-best eight birdies, including three in the third round.
NAU's turnaround will be quick as the Lumberjacks will compete at the GCU Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon this Saturday and Sunday in Phoenix at the GCU Championship Golf Course.
