Aleksandra Chekalina was named the Big Sky Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after posting the Northern Arizona golf team's top finish at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate. For Chekalina it is her second Golfer of the Week award of the season and her career.
Chekalina was NAU's top individual finisher, carding a three-round nine-over par 225 (77-73-75) at the par-72, 6,378 yard Spanish Trail Country Club course on Monday and Tuesday. After the first day, Chekalina was in a tie for 31st on the individual leaderboard before moving up to a tie for 28th following the third round.
The Rebel Beach Intercollegiate was Chekalina's third top 30 finish in six tournaments so far this season.
Chekalina recorded the second-most pars in the tournament, trailing only Long Beach State's Maria Davis' 44 over three rounds.
Heading into this weekend's GCU Invitational, Chekalina owns NAU's best stroke average of 75.33.
