FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 8, 2020) – Northern Arizona University's women's diving will head to the three-day NCAA Zone E Diving Championships this upcoming Monday through Wednesday.
All three of NAU's divers,
Jenny Cheetham,
Emily Sharrer and
Emily Luberto, will be attending the zones championships hosted by Utah in Federal Way, Wash. The first day begins Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. with the 1-meter preliminary dives. The finals round will begin at 3:10 p.m.
Cheetham has found the most success on the 1-meter boards, posting six first-place finishes. She won gold in the recent Western Athletic Conference Championships with a final tally of 297.71, although she has scored as high as 329.80 in her career at NAU. Cheetham's hard work on the boards has been recognized four times by the WAC, honoring Cheetham as Diver of the Week throughout the season. This will be Cheetham's third appearance at the NCAA Zone Championships.
Tuesday morning's 3-meter preliminary dives also start at 11:30 a.m. with finals at 3:10 p.m.
Sharrer earned her first Diver of the Week honor back on Jan. 27 after finishing third on the 1-meter and second on the 3-meter, earning her second-best tally of 287.70. Sharrer has finished in the top three on both the 1 and 3-meter boards over 10 times, including posting a first-place finish to Arizona and second-place to Northwestern in a double dual meet on the 1-meter, scoring 258.65. This marks the second time Sharrer will compete in zones.
On the last day, the three Lumberjacks will dive on the platform. The final day begins at 11 a.m. and finals will begin directly after prelims at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Luberto earned her NCAA qualifying score on Feb. 1 after breaking the 1-meter 265 tally standard by two points at 267.55. As a freshman, this will be Luberto's first time in the NCAA Zone Championships, but Luberto shows promise after finishing in the top five over 12 times on all three boards. On platform specifically, Luberto has placed fourth (220.85), fifth (217.90) and sixth (192.32).
