LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 13, 2021) – Opening up the 2021 ITA Mountain Regionals on Wednesday in Las Vegas, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks came away with three singles wins and a pair of doubles victories.
Ranked No. 1 in Flight One of singles play,
Gina Dittmann defeated Idaho's Ines Olivera 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round of the bracket.
Laura Duhl also opened her tournament with a win in singles, beating Air Force's Alex Kuo 7-5, 6-0 in the opener.
Dittmann opens Thursday's singles play against Denver's Toni Nelson while Duhl take's on the brackets No. 8 seed Izumi Asano of UNLV.
In Flight Two of singles,
Elinor Beazley beat Weber State's Megan Davies 7-6, 6-0 to open her singles tournament and is set to face BYU's Helen Jiao.
Beazley and Duhl also combined for a victory in doubles play, beating Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger and Ana Conde Vendrell 8-4 with a match against Colorado's Megan Forster and Mila Stanojevic ahead in the second round.
Ranked No. 7 in the doubles bracket,
Mimi Bland and
Ellie Millard beat Wyoming's Ida Krause and Serina Abriola 8-7 in the first round with a meeting against BYU's Emilee Astle and Kara Lin up next in the bracket.
Ava Neyestani and
Annabel Davis each forced their opening round singles matches into a third set, with the former facing Utah's Madeline Lamoreaux who entered as the No.-7 seed in the top singles draw.
Play continues Thursday in Las Vegas with one round of doubles play while the singles draws will already reduce down to the Round of 16.
