ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (October 29, 2021) – Opening up play at the New Mexico Halloween Classic, the Northern Arizona Women's Tennis team came away with four victories between singles and doubles play on Friday.
Starting the tournament in singles against New Mexico State Aggies in the morning, the Lumberjacks took three of five singles matches scheduled between the two schools.
Gina Dittmann,
Ava Neyestani and
Elinor Beazley all won in straight sets to begin their weekend in Albuquerque. Dittmann defeated Harsha Challa 6-3, 6-4, Neyestani won 6-3, 6-1 over Gavi Kalaga and Beazley closed out her match against Georgia Townsend 6-3, 6-4.
It would be the first victory of two on the day for Beazley and Neyestani, with the pair beating New Mexico's Yue Lin Chen and Myu Kageyama 7-5 during the afternoon doubles sessions.
Laura Duhl also won her doubles match 6-3 while pairing with a player from New Mexico State against New Mexico's Sarah O'Connor and Allison Romero.
Duhl and
Sofia Markova also competed in singles, dropping their matches to Lisa Zhu and Chloe Gavino respectively. Dittmann and Markova also fell in their doubles match to New Mexico's Hsuan Huang and Satoho Toriumi.
The Lumberjacks return to the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium on Saturday for doubles against New Mexico State at 11:30 followed by singles against Colorado State at 1 p.m.
