Taryn O'Neill Named Big Sky Women's Co-Freshman of the Year

FARMINGTON, Utah (May 21, 2021) - The Big Sky Conference announced the Women's Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year award on Friday, naming Taryn O'Neill of Northern Arizona and Tayler LyDay of Idaho as co-freshman recipients. This award is earned by the freshmen that score the most points at the conference championship meet.

At the Big Sky Outdoor Championships last weekend, O'Neill competed in the women's 1500-meter race and the 5000-meter run, scoring a total of 18 points for the Lumberjack women's team.

O'Neill ran in the 1500-meter on Saturday to kick start her outdoor championship debut, finishing the race with a time of 4:21.27 to place first in the event, bringing home a gold medal and ten points for NAU.

Several hours later, O'Neill returned to the track to compete in the women's 5K, earning silver with a time of 16:38.10 to secure eight additional points for her team.

O'Neill has since declared entry for the NCAA West Regionals in the women's 5K, and will compete in College Station, Texas next week.
