FARMINGTON, Utah (July 13, 2021) – The Big Sky All-Academic awards continued on Tuesday with the release of the Winter All-Academic honorees by the conference office. The Northern Arizona men's basketball, women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track & field teams totaled 76 Winter All-Academic awards, bringing NAU's total to 187 between the fall and winter seasons.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020-21 academic year, the participation requirement for Big Sky All-Academic honors was waived as voted on by the league's Athletic Directors. To be eligible for Big Sky All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Be on an active roster for their institution; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
The conference opted to recognize student-athletes for the indoor track & field season despite a championship not being held this year. NAU women's indoor track & field led the way for the winter season with 37 honorees followed by the Lumberjack men with 22. The women's basketball team totaled 11 selections and men's basketball had six All-Academic awardees.
On Monday, the Big Sky announced the
Fall Big Sky All-Academic list with NAU combining for 111 honorees. The All-Academic awards concludes on Wednesday with the spring sports.
