Colorado Springs, Colo. (September 23, 2021) – Opening up the first of five fall competitions, Northern Arizona's doubles teams registered a trio of victories as the Lumberjacks finished the first day at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains with a perfect record.
Playing in Flight A of the doubles tournament,
Mimi Bland and
Gina Dittmann finished their first-round match with a 6-3 victory over Ky Ecton and Ellen Puzak of Colorado.
Annabel Davis, playing in her first tournament with the Lumberjacks, and
Ellie Millard also advanced out of the first round in the top flight with a 6-4 win against Maria Oreshkina and Lucia Malinak of Wyoming.
In Flight B,
Elinor Beazley and
Laura Duhl moved into the second round due to a bye while
Sofia Markova and
Ava Neyestani defeated Alyse Cormier of Wyoming and Adriene Pavek of Idaho State 6-4.
Doubles play resumes on Saturday with the quarterfinals and semifinals. Dittmann and Bland will take on Idaho State's Lola O'Lideadha and Sol O'Lideadha in the quarters of Flight A. On the other side of the bracket, Davis and Millard will match up against Denver's pairing of Tatum Burger and Anna Riedmiller.
In Flight B of doubles, Beazley and Duhl face JJ Chen and Freia Lawrence of Montana State while Markova and Neyestani play Noesjka Brink and Mihaela Kaftanova from Wyoming.
Friday's schedule includes the first two rounds of singles play, with Dittmann and Bland leading the way in Flight A. Dittmann plays Colorado's Mila Stanojevic and Bland opens with Anna Riedmiller from Denver.
In the Flight B Draw, Markova plays Ecton and Millard meets future Big Sky opponent Andrea Cuquerella from Montana State. Neyestani and Beazley also match up against opponents from Montana State in Flight C, with the former facing Lawrence and the latter taking on Chen before the two meet in doubles on Saturday.
Davis and Duhl earned byes through the first round of Flight D, with the former waiting on her quarterfinal opponent and the latter paired against Colorado State's Anastasiia Kotsyuba.
