Colorado Springs, Colo. (September 25, 2021) – With just one day remaining at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains, one of Northern Arizona's doubles pairings will play in the final of its flight.
Elinor Beazley and
Sofia Markova came off Thursday's bye through the first round to defeat JJ Chen and Freia Lawrence of Montana State 6-1 in the quarterfinals before edging out Serina Abriola and Ida Krause of Wyoming 7-6 (3) in the Flight B semifinal.
The duo will now face Radka Buzkova and Matea Mihaljevic in Sunday's final.
Markova is also scheduled for the 3-4 playoff of Flight B in singles as she takes on Colorado's Betina Tokac. Markova battled with Buzkova in the semifinals of the main draw in the flight on Saturday, taking a second set to force a deciding third before falling 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.
Beazley also advanced through in her lone singles match of the day, winning in a walkover against Idaho State's Alex Arkhipov. That sends the junior into the North Finals of Flight C against teammate
Ava Neyestani, who beat Alyse Cormier of Wyoming, 6-3, 6-0, to reach the stage's final.
Annabel Davis and
Laura Duhl are also matched up in the 3-4 playoff of Flight D following Saturday's semifinal round in singles.
Similarly,
Mimi Bland and
Gina Dittmann landed in the 3-4 playoff of Flight A's doubles draw after beating Idaho State's Lola O'Lideadha and Sol O'Lideadha 6-4 in the quarterfinals. The two will face Sydney Fitch and Vivian Glozman from Air Force on Sunday.
