STOCKTON, Calif. (March 15, 2022) - The 'Jacks started the week off strong with a 4-3 win at the University of the Pacific, bringing in victory over the Tigers, in a court six showdown.
"It was a great team effort today, Congrats to Dani who had to come from behind and clinched the match for us," Head Coach Maciej Bogusz said.
To start off the match, NAU earned the doubles point as pairings Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves alongside Daniel Dillon and Maciej Ziomber earned wins for the 'Jacks.
In a quick set, Ziomber and Dillon topped Pacific's Manroop Saini and Coby McCaig in 6-2 fashion on court three. Wrapping up their match not too far behind, Buzonics and Groves earned a 6-3 victory on court two, to Aleska Mardjonovic and Liam Puttergill.
Facundo Tumosa and Eban Straker-Meads dropped their doubles match at the No. 1 position to Peter Alam and Ran Amar, falling 4-6. Heading into singles play with the doubles point in NAU's favor, the 'Jacks went to work to earn the overall win.
Buzonics faced Amar at the No. 3 position, where he dropped the match in two sets, losing 2-6, 3-6. Ziomber continued with his momentum from doubles play, earning a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 position. Ziomber now holds a singles record of 13-3, leading the team in individual singles wins.
Tumosa dropped his match at the No. 1 position to Mardjonovic, falling in two sets, 4-6, 3-6. Straker-Meads extended his singles win streak to seven with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position to Alam. In one of the closest matches through all six courts, Groves dropped in two sets, losing to Puttergill 5-7, 6-7.
As the match was all tied up, the final point and the Lumberjack victory came to a decision on court six. Freshman Dani Torres lost his first set to McCaig, 4-6, before rallying back and proving himself in a 6-3, 6-2 second and third set to earn the win for NAU.
The Lumberjacks will continue Big Sky Conference play on Thursday when they take on the Sacramento State Hornets at 12 p.m. MST.
