SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 17, 2022) - The Lumberjacks topped the Sacramento State Hornets 5-2 Wednesday afternoon, improving their record to 14-5 while remaining undefeated through Big Sky play.

The Hornets dropped only their second doubles point of the season to the 'Jacks as doubles pairings Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves as well as Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon secured wins on courts two and three for the Lumberjacks.

Facundo Tumosa and Eban Straker-Meads fell to Sacramento's Mark Keki and Mate Voros in a 6-1 decision. Buzonics and Groves defeated Patrick Wong and Hayden Rand at the No. 2 position, 6-3. Clinching the doubles point, Ziomber and Dillon earned the 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position, facing Rudolfs Aksenoks and Ori Maior.

Starting off singles play strong, Groves defeated Wong at the No. 4 position, in a quick 6-2, 6-0 match. Groves improved to an overall singles record of 13-4. Ziomber earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position to Aksenoks, moving to an overall singles record of 14-3, to lead the Lumberjacks.

Freshman Dani Torres earned his second consecutive victory at the No. 6 position, coming up with the 6-4, 6-2 victory to Rand. In a tough first set, Straker-Meads fell 1-6 before bouncing back for a 6-4 set two win and a 10-6 tiebreaker to secure victory.

Both of the Lumberjacks losses at the No. 1 position as well as the No. 3 position were in third set tiebreakers. Tumosa dropped his match on court one to Keki, 5-7, 6-4, 10-12. Buzonics fell on court three to Maior, 6-2, 6-7, 7-10.
