Lumberjacks Lead the Big Sky with 60 Winter All-Academic Awards

FARMINGTON, Utah (June 2, 2022) – The Northern Arizona men's basketball, women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track & field teams combined to lead the Big Sky Conference with 60 Winter All-Academic awards in a release by the league office on Thursday. In addition to leading the conference, the 60 honorees were an increase from the 47 winter awardees two years ago and 24 more than the year before that.

The jump in Winter All-Academic awards followed the trend set by the Lumberjack fall teams, who combined for 62 All-Academic honors compared to 40 from the 2019 fall season.

To be eligible for Big Sky All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions or if a track & field student-athlete competed at the indoor conference championships; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.

The women's indoor track & field team accounted for 25 of the 60 Winter All-Academic honorees, followed by the men's indoor track & field team with 23. Women's basketball had eight and men's basketball had four to round out the Big Sky leading total.

More than half (36) of the 60 Winter All-Academic have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.60 with 10 student-athletes currently holding a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.

NAU Athletics has now had a total of 122 Big Sky All-Academic honorees through the 2021-22 winter season.
