FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 26, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University men's cross country team has been named the National Scholar Team of the Year, while a total of six athletes from both the men's and women's teams were named as Academic All-Americans.
The men's team won the team title at the 2022 NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.30. The team has previously won the Men's Scholar Team of the Year title during the 2013, 2016, 2020, and 2021 cross country seasons.
As individuals,
Brodey Hasty,
George Kusche,
Ryan Raff, and
Nico Young all earned Academic All-American status. In order to qualify as an Academic All-American, student athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and finish either in the top-25 at the NCAA Regional Championships, or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
For the women,
Jesselyn Bries and
Bryn Morley also earned Academic All-American status. This is the second All-Academic honor for both Bries, Morley, and Kuche. This is Raff's fourth time being honored as an Academic All-American, and Young's third time.
