FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Oct. 20, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University golf team concludes its Fall season by hosting the third annual Clash at Boulder Creek this week from Oct. 22-24 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
 
The Lumberjacks will host 19 other teams for the three-day event that includes one round of 18 holes each day (par-72, 6,334 yards). The first round begins on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Mountain Standard time with 8 a.m. shotgun starts for the following two.
 
The field is made up of Boise State, Cal State Bakersfield, Fresno State, Illinois State, Long Beach State, North Dakota, San Diego State, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UNLV, UTEP, and UTRGV along with Big Sky Conference foes Idaho, Montana State, Northern Colorado, and Weber State.
 
This is the third-straight season that the Lumberjacks have hosted the tournament, with Nevada winning the team title in 2022 and UNLV winning the inaugural event in 2021.
 
Last season, NAU turned in their best finish of the Fall at the Clash of Boulder Creek, finishing sixth after shooting an 879 (+15). They were led by Lorel Hayward who finished tied for ninth with a 214 (-2) for her career low. Hayward shot a 69 in the third and final round, and as a team NAU turned in five rounds at par or better.
 
Northern Arizona is coming off a solid performance at the Golf Iconic Classic last week. As a team, the Lumberjacks shot a 287 (-1) in round one, a 288 (E) in round two, and a 289 (+1) in round three to end the tournament with 864 (E) strokes to place sixth overall. The total is the second lowest of the season and ranks fourth all-time in program history for a 54-hole score. Just three tournaments into the year, it was the second new top-ten mark the Lumberjacks have claimed this season.
 
Amy Hodgkins led the way for the Lumberjacks once again, tying for 10^th place with a total of 214 (-2) strokes. Hodgkins recorded a 71 (-1) in the third round for the second top-ten finish of her young career. Heading into this weekend, the true freshman has concluded a round at par or better seven-straight times.
 
Hodgkins will be representing the Lumberjacks in this week's lineup along with sophomores Lizzie Neale and Ellena Slater, freshman Frankie Dezis, and Hayward. Senior Ekaterina Malakhova and sophomore Nina Lukyanenko will be competing as individuals.
 
Hodgkins is leading the team with a scoring average of 71.89 followed by Neale with an average of 73.22 strokes per round. As a team, NAU has turned in a total of 23 individual rounds at par or better led by Hodgkins with seven and Slater with five. Slater currently has a scoring average of 74.22.
 
The Clash at Boulder Creek concludes the 2023 Fall season for NAU. The Lumberjacks return to action with Mountain Classic Match Play on Feb. 12-14 in Palm Desert, Calif.
