LAS VEGAS, Nev. (November 13, 2023) – In its final event of the fall season, Northern Arizona Women's Tennis made a statement at the UNLV Watanabe Classic in Las Vegas this weekend, with three different Lumberjacks winning their singles flights.
NAU went 14-7 across the 21 matches in Las Vegas, including back-to-back days of not dropping a singles match on Saturday and Sunday.
In flight one for NAU was Patrycja Niewiadomska, who breezed past UTSA in her quarterfinal 6-1, 6-3. Two more challenging straight-set wins would follow in the semis and final, where the sophomore would prevail 7-6, 6-4, and 6-4, 6-4 against two UNLV players.
The second Lumberjack sweep in singles came in flight two, represented by sophomore Daryna Shoshyna. Shoshyna gave up only four games in her quarterfinal in a 6-1, 6-3 scoreline.
Shoshyna's next two matches saw her come from a set down in her semifinal and final match to claim victory in the second flight.
Just like Shoshyna in flight two, senior Dolavee Tumthong won her quarterfinal in straights before needing to go three after dropping the first set in her final two matches of the weekend en route to topping the third flight.
After dropping their opening matches in flights two and four, Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and Ava Neyestani would win both of their consolation matches.
In doubles action, the Lumberjacks went 1-5 over the weekend, with the lone win coming from the pairing of Shoshyna and Guadiana Campos against Utah Tech on Saturday.
