LEWISTON, Idaho (March 10, 2023) – The No. 63 Northern Arizona University women's tennis team earned their third conference victory as they defeated the Idaho Vandals 4-3.
The Lumberjacks started the day with one doubles win, as
Laura Duhl and
Patrycja Niewiadomska defeated the Idaho pair of Jayanne Palma and Valentina Rodas 6-4. Despite putting up a tough fight,
Mimi Bland and
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and
Daryna Shoshyna and
Sofia Markova would drop their doubles matches 3-6 and 4-6 respectively.
The women bounced back in singles play, taking the win on four of six courts.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos had a back-and-forth match against the Vandals' Valentina Rodas. Guadiana Campos took the first set in a 7-5 victory, then dropped the second set 2-6. She came back strong in the third set, easily winning 6-1.
Patrycja Niewiadomska also had a tough path to victory, with her second set requiring a tiebreaker. She won the first set 6-4 and took the win after a close 7-6 second set.
Sofia Markova put up a strong effort on court one but lost her first match 3-6. She pushed her second set to a tiebreaker before eventually losing 5-7.
Daryna Shoshyna pushed her first set to a tiebreak, losing in a narrow 6-7 before eventually dropping her second set 3-6.
Laura Duhl had an easy day at the number six spot, picking up a point for the 'Jacks with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win.
Ava Neyestani pushed her match to three sets, dominating in the last two sets to claim victory. After dropping her first set 4-6 Neyestani won the next two 6-2, 6-1.
