CHENEY, Wash. (March 11, 2023) – The No. 63 Northern Arizona University women's tennis defeated Eastern Washington 7-0 to improve to 4-0 in conference play this season.
The Lumberjacks started out strong in doubles play, with
Elinor Beazley and
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos easily defeating the Eagles' top duo 6-1.
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Laura Duhl dominated court two, winning their match 6-1 as well. The final doubles match featuring
Daryna Shoshyna and
Ava Neyestani on court three was left unfinished.
NAU continued their positive momentum in singles play, winning on all six courts.
Patrycja Niewiadomska was the first to finish, with an easy victory over Eastern Washington's Jennifer Kida on court three. Niewiadomska won consecutive sets 6-1, 6-0 to finish her day 2-0.
Sofia Markova also saw an easy win on court one, winning both of her sets 6-2.
Daryna Shoshyna had a tougher match, but it was nothing that the freshman couldn't handle. After winning her first set 6-4, Shoshyna's second set went to a tiebreak. She eventually came out on top with a 7-6 win on court four to clinch the team victory.
Laura Duhl earned the 'Jacks their fifth point with her win on court six. She won back-to-back sets over EWU's Kenzington Mann 6-2,6-2.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos had the sole match to go to three sets on court two as both competitors battled hard. After dropping her first set 4-6, she bounced back to push the second to a tiebreaker. She won the second set 7-5 and eventually won the third set in an 11-9 tiebreak.
Ava Neyestani was the last Lumberjack playing, with her match on court five ending in a relatively easy victory for the junior. She won her match 6-2, 6-4 to wrap up the sweep for NAU.
The Lumberjacks will be back at home on Tuesday as they host Wyoming and attempt to extend their home-win streak. The match will take place at 10 a.m. MST at the NAU Tennis Center. For updated scores and coverage of the NAU women's tennis team during the spring season, follow the team on
