FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 14, 2023) – The No. 64 Northern Arizona University women's tennis team fell to the New Mexico Lobos 3-4 after a series of hard-fought matches.
NAU initially lost the doubles point as the 'Jacks went 0-2 with the final match unfinished.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and
Elinor Beazley pushed their match against No. 57 Leonie Hoppe and Katherine Jhang to a tiebreak, eventually losing 5-7.
Daryna Shoshyna and
Ava Neyestani dropped their match on court three 4-6 despite putting up a tough fight.
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Laura Duhl's match on court two went unfinished.
In singles play the Lumberjacks battled back to tie the match 3-3 before eventually losing the final point.
Daryna Shoshyna was first to finish on court four, dropping consecutive sets 3-1, 1-6.
Ava Neyestani lost her first set on court five 2-6, before battling back to a 6-2 second set victory. She eventually lost her match after dropping the final set 2-6.
Sofia Markova continued her hot streak at the top position, easily defeating New Mexico's Sarah O'Connor 6-3, 6-0.
Elinor Beazley slid into the sixth spot today, putting on an impressive show. She won her first set 6-4 and ultimately claimed victory in a close second set that went to a 7-6 tiebreak.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos had her match go to three sets, winning the first 6-4 before dropping the second 3-6. She bounced back strong in the third set, winning 6-4.
In the final match of the day Patrycja Niewiamdoska and Leonnie Hoppe saw two close first sets. Each went to a tiebreak, with Niewiadomska taking the first 7-6 and losing the second 6-7. She eventually lost after dropping the third set 0-6.
