FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 2, 2023) – The No. 52 Northern Arizona University women's tennis team is back on the road this weekend to take on Portland and Portland State.
The Lumberjacks are coming off a historic weekend which saw them earn their first conference win of the season as well as their first ranked win of the season. After defeating No. 53 Colorado State, the 'Jacks earned their highest ITA National Ranking in school history. They are currently ranked number 52 in the nation.
The women will first travel to Portland to take on the Pilots who are 6-2 overall on the season. The Pilots already have wins against NAU's Big Sky foes Portland State, Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Idaho State.
Portland is currently riding high on a five-match win streak following a victory over Idaho State last weekend. The Pilots put up a strong 5-2 victory over the Bengals. After taking the doubles point, Portland quickly clinched the match with wins on the top three courts.
Following their match against Portland, the women will head to Beaverton to take on conference rival Portland State. The Vikings are 5-6 on the season and are 1-0 in conference play. Their conference win came last weekend against Idaho State.
Portland State's doubles pair of Capu Sanoner and Masha Ponomareva are undefeated this season, proving dominant at the number one position. The team's victory over Idaho State ended with impressive victories during singles play, with four players going 2-0 on the day.
