FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 22, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams will continue their outdoor season this weekend as they head to the University of Arizona for the Willie Williams Classic.
Last weekend the Lumberjacks competed at the GCU Invitational, seeing a lot of success in their first meet of the season. Throughout the two days, NAU saw seven total event winners.
John Murphy started things off with a win in the hammer throw after throwing a meet-record 64.78 meters, putting him at ninth in the west region so far this season. The 'Jacks also took second and third in the event, with
Desmond Lott throwing 60.84 meters and
Garret Bernt throwing 58.62 meters.
Drew Bosley ran a time of 13:37.77 in the 5000-meter, easily winning the event and putting him at the top of the nation in the event.
Freshman
Colin Sahlman saw a dominant performance in the 1500-meter, winning the event with a time of 3:47.26 to put him at second in the west region.
Theo Quax finished second in the event with a time of 3:47.49, putting him at third in the west region.
The women's 4x100-meter relay set a new school record after finishing second in the event, and currently sit at fifth in the west region.
Alyssa Colbert,
Kyairra Reigh,
Kenya Coburn, and
LiNay Perry combined to run a time of 44.88.
Colbert and Reigh also finished first and second in the 200-meter with times of 24.16 and 24.18, respectively. Colbert is currently ranked first in the Big Sky and 20
th in the west region while Reigh is ranked second in the Big Sky and 22
nd in the west region.
Madeline Wilson won the high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters, putting her at second in the Big Sky and 21
st in the region.
Jack Normand won the event for the men with a jump of 2.11 meters. He currently ranks first in the Big Sky and 4
th in the region.
Ian Lipsey also won his event, jumping 7.19 meters in the long jump. Lipsey is ranked second in the Big Sky and 19
th in the region.
In the first competition featuring javelin this year,
Trevor Hook finished second with a throw of 66.30 meters. He is currently ranked first in the Big Sky and 10
th in the region.
Jade Kwinn also sits atop the Big Sky after finishing third in the women's javelin with a throw of 47.44 meters. Kwinn is ranked 16
th in the west region.
