No. 63 NAU Hits the Road for Double Conference Matchup

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 8, 2023) – The No. 63 Northern Arizona University women's tennis team is back on the road this weekend as they face two conference opponents. They will first head to Idaho to take on the Vandals, then traveling to Eastern Washington to face the Eagles.

The 'Jacks are coming off a weekend in which they earned their second conference victory following a 5-2 win against Portland State. Despite losing the initial doubles point, the women rallied to win five singles matches. Sofia Markova took the win at the number one spot, with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. Patrycja Niewiadomska continued her dominance on court three, winning her second two sets after falling in a tiebreak in the first to finish with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win. Daryna Shoshyna, Ana Neyestani, and Laura Duhl all claimed victory as well after hard-fought matches that each went to three sets.

The Vandals are 2-7 overall on the season and are 1-1 in conference play so far. Their conference victory comes from a 5-2 win over Eastern Washington last week. Idaho put up a strong showing, winning the doubles point along with four of their singles matches.

Annabel Davis plays in the top spot for Idaho and has been their leader this season. Last week she earned her sixth singles victory against Gonzaga, posting the Vandal's lone point in the match.

Eastern Washington is 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play on the season. Their wins came against Seattle University and Whitman College. In their loss to Idaho, both points came in singles with Scout Matthews finding a path to victory at the number one spot while Renata Gabuzyan winning on court four for the Eagles.
