POCATELLO, Idaho (April 10, 2023) – The No. 73 Northern Arizona University women's tennis team clinched at least a share of the regular season title following a 6-1 win over the Idaho State Bengals.
The 'Jacks opened their day dropping the doubles point. They lost on court two 4-6 and won on court three in a7-5 tiebreak. NAU eventually lost the doubles point following a close 6-7 loss on court one.
The women rallied hard as singles play began, winning on all six courts to win the match.
Sofia Markova had an easy day on court one, winning consecutive sets 6-2, 6-2.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos won her first set 6-4 before dropping the second 3-6. She came back strong in the third set to earn another point for NAU with a 6-4 victory.
Patrycja Niewiadomska continued her dominance at the number three spot, easily defeating her competition 6-2, 6-2.
Daryna Shoshyna had a back-and-forth first set before eventually winning 6-4. She found an easier path to victory in her second set, winning 6-1.
Ava Neyestani saw a tough match at the number five spot, needing three sets to defeat her opponent. After winning her first set 6-3, she dropped her second in a 5-7 tiebreak. In a close third set, Neyestani won 10-8 to earn another point for the 'Jacks.
Laura Duhl wrapped things up on court six for NAU, seeing an easy 6-3, 6-3 win.
The Lumberjacks will be back at home for their final match of the regular season. NAU will host Sacramento State on Sunday, April 16 at the NAU Tennis Center beginning at 10:00 a.m. MST.
