PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 27, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University women's tennis team will face Sacramento State in the second round of the Big Sky Conference Championships.
The Lumberjacks finished their season a perfect 8-0 in conference play, easily earning the number one seed heading into the conference tournament. NAU is the three-time defending Big Sky champion women's tennis team and earned a first-round bye following their remarkable season.
NAU last played Sacramento State on April 16 where the 'Jacks secured a 7-0 victory. After securing the doubles point, NAU won every singles court to sweep the Hornets.
Sofia Markova dropped her first set 6-7 before rallying to a 6-4, 10-8 win on court one.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos had an easy time on court two, winning consecutive sets 6-2, 6-2.
Patrycja Niewiadomska also had a two set victory, taking the point with back-to-back 6-1 wins.
Daryna Shoshyna won her first set 6-1 before dropping the second 1-6. She came back strong in the third set, earning another point with a 6-3 win.
Ava Neyestani left no doubt on court five, with an easy 6-0, 6-3 win.
Laura Duhl wrapped up the sweep for NAU with a 6-3, 7-6 victory on court six.
Sacramento State won their match against Idaho 4-0 today to advance to the second round of conference play. The Hornets secured the doubles point early on, with wins on courts two and three earning them the first point of the day,
