FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 5, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University cross country teams swept the Big Sky's first weekly awards of the season following impressive performances from
Drew Bosley and
Ruby Smee at the George Kyte Classic.
The Lumberjacks opened their season this past weekend with victories at the 43
rd annual George Kyte Classic. The women saw a dominant performance as they scored only 15 points, while the men also saw an easy victory with a score of 18 points.
Smee led the team in her first race as a Lumberjack, running a 2.5-mile time of 14:34.6. She finished .1 seconds ahead of teammates
Elise Stearns and
Aliandrea Upshaw to earn her first individual victory of the season.
Bosley finished first in the men's race for the second consecutive year, running a 4.5-mile time of 21:32.7. His time is the fastest in George Kyte history and was 15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, teammate
Santiago Gomez-Prosser.
The 'Jacks have two weeks off before they head to the Virginia Invitational in Charlotteville, Va. The meet will take place on Sept. 23 and will be hosted by the University of Virginia.
