FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 23, 2024) – The NAU women's tennis team competed in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the ITA Mountain Regionals Finals this past weekend. NAU sent all six of their players to Las Cruces. Everyone played in both doubles and singles except
Andrea Noguera who did not compete in the singles bracket.
In doubles,
Daryna Shoshyna and
Elen Jantacova made it to the quarterfinals. In the second round, Shoshyna and Jantacoa took down the No. 9 seeds from Nevada, Kennedy Robinson and Lou Anne Guerbert, 8-6. The Lumberjack pair's run ended when they lost to the No. 6 seeds from Denver and eventual finalists Andrea Beltran and Marley Lambert, 8-4.
In singles,
Patrycja Niewiadomska lost her first match in the main draw by the score of 6-4, 6-3. Then she lost her second match and final match by the scoreline of 2-6, 6-2, 10-7)
Shoshyna went 3-1 in singles with the one loss coming in the first round of the main draw. She was able to bounce back and win her next three matches and leave Las Cruces with some wins.
All three of the Lumberjacks in the main qualifying draw did not get wins. The only Lumberjack to get a win in the consolation qualifying draw was
Leontina Stojanovic who came away with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hanna Vinahradava from Nevada.
