FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (November 14, 2024) — NAU women's tennis is preparing for the final fall tournament, the Wildcat Invite, hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson.
The Lumberjacks will be sending down all six of their players to compete in the tournament. All six of the players will also be playing in both doubles and singles.
The doubles duos for the Lumberjacks are Patrycja Niewiadomska with Laura Duhl, Andrea Noguera with Leontina Stojanovic, and Daryna Shoshyna with Elen Jantacova. This will be the first doubles action for Nogura this season as she did not play doubles during the Lumberjack Classic or the ITA Regional Championships.
Shoshyna and Jantacova will look to build from their success at the ITA Regional Championships when they went to the quarterfinal of the main draw. On their way to the quarterfinals, the pair beat the No. 9 seed from Nevada, Kennedy Robinson, and Lou Anne Guerbert by the scoreline of 8-6.
Shoshyna went 3-1 at the ITA regionals with her loss coming in the first round of the main draw. Shoshyna showed resilience and won the next three matches that she played.
Niewiadomska was the only other player for NAU to compete in the main draw of the ITA Regional Championships but lost.
Jantacova was the only Lumberjack to get a win in the consolation bracket of the qualifying draw. She beat Hanna Vinahradava from Nevada by putting up a bagel. The final score of the match was 6-0, 6-2.
