FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 11, 2024) – The NAU women's tennis team saw strong efforts in their match against the Wyoming Cowgirls in which they lost 3-4 to become 1-1 on the season.
"Great effort from the Lady 'Jacks today," said coach
Maciej Bogusz. "To give themselves a chance to beat a Mountain West team was great. The ladies were battling until the very end and brought a great energy today."
The 'Jacks started off their day with a close loss of the doubles point. They saw a big doubles win on court two with
Laura Duhl and
Patrycja Niewiadomska easily claiming victory over the Cowgirls' pairing 6-3.
Dolavee Tumthong and
Ava Neyestani fought hard on court three, but eventually fell 4-6.
Daryna Shoshyna and
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos battled on court one, pushing the back-and-forth match to a tiebreaker before eventually falling 5-7.
In singles play
Andrea Noguera put up a tough fight on court six before eventually falling to Wyoming's Luca Malinak 3-6, 1-6.
Patrycja Niewiadomska had another strong day on court one, easily earning a point for the Lumberjacks as she won consecutive sets 6-3, 6-1.
On court two,
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos dropped her first set 1-6 before battling hard and pushing the second set to a tiebreaker. Despite keeping it close, she eventually fell 6-7.
Daryna Shoshyna kept her matches close on court three, pushing both sets to a tiebreaker before dropping them 6-7, 6-7 to Wyoming's Violetta Borodina.
Dolavee Tumthong pushed her first set to a tiebreaker on court four before eventually dropping it 5-7. She bounced back in the second set, winning 6-3 before seeing a decisive 6-2 victory in the third set to earn a point for NAU.
Ava Neyestani easily won her first set 6-1 on court five. Her second set was pushed to a tiebreaker which she lost 6-7. The third set was back-and-forth with Neyestani fighting hard. It was pushed to a tiebreaker where Neyestani eventually won 7-6 (7-4).
The Lumberjacks are on the road this coming week as they head to Albuquerque, N.M. to take on New Mexico and Abilene Christian. They will face the Lobos on Friday, Feb. 16 before taking on the Wildcats on Saturday, Feb. 17. To stay up to date with NAU women's tennis, follow the Lumberjacks on
