FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 16, 2024) – The NAU track & field team finished out their regular season hosting the NAU Tune Up, seeing more strong performances from multiple athletes.
Garret Bernt broke his own school and conference weight throw record for the fifth time this season with a throw of 22.93 meters. His mark earned him the event win and puts him in the top-5 in the nation.
Desmond Lott finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 19.18 meters while
Parker Bays placed third with a mark of 18.97 meters.
Cole White was the final NAU competitor in the event, placing fifth with a mark of 15.75 meters.
Bays and Lott placed third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put. Bays threw 17.46 meters while Lott threw 16.44 meters.
Jake Tucker finished sixth with a mark of 16.24 meters while
Drayden Allen placed seventh with a mark of 14.63 meters.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp won the weight throw for the women with a throw of 18.82 meters.
Alaina Diggs placed second with a personal best mark of 18.61 meters, putting her at sixth on NAU's all-time performance list. Tania Duncan finished sixth in the event with a mark of 14.50 meters.
Diggs also placed second in the shot put after hitting a mark of 15.22 meters.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp finished fifth with a mark of 12.14 meters.
Kang Nyoak took the event win in the mile with a time of 4:09.59. He was closely followed by
Caleb Easton who placed second with a time of 4:11.87.
John Scherer won the men's 3,000-meter in his first race of the season after running a time of 8:30.46.
Kenashalee Kerr finished seventh in the women's long jump after hitting a personal best mark of 5.62 meters. Kerr placed second in the triple jump with a season best mark of 12.06 meters.
Alexa Hamilton finished sixth with a personal best mark of 11.09 meters.
In the men's triple jump,
Sirr Butler was the lone Lumberjack competitor… Butler finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.46 meters.
Jyntry Rucker finished fifth in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.84.
Alaynah Reed also finished fifth, running a time of 7.76 in the women's 60-meter.
In the men's 60-meter,
MarcAnthony Sanchez placed fourth after running a personal best time of 6.81.
Ian Lipsey finished ninth with a time of 7.00. Sanchez also competed in the 200-meter, finishing fifth with a personal best time of 21.84.
Kyairra Riegh took the event win in both the 200-meter and the 400-meter. She ran a time of 23.97 in the 200-meter and a time of 54.50 in the 400-meter.
LiNay Perry placed second in the 400-meter with a time of 55.46 while
Hannah Schmidt finished third with a personal best time of 56.97.
In the men's 400-meter,
Cannon Booker placed second with a personal best time of 49.49.
Ethan Seppala and
Jackson Glamann finished fourth and fifth, respectively, running times of 50.15 and 50.31.
Still to compete this weekend is NAU's men's distance medley relay team, who will compete tomorrow at the Alex Wilson Invitational. The Lumberjacks will then head to the Big Sky Conference Championships next week in Spokane, Wash.
