Lumberjack Women’s Tennis Falls 3-4 to New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (February 16, 2024) – The NAU women's tennis team narrowly lost 3-4 to the New Mexico Lobos in their first road match of the season.
 
"Our women brought the competitive spirit again and put themselves in a position to win the match despite losing the doubles point," said coach Maciej Bogusz. "We left everything on the court and it came down to individual points, unfortunately we came on the short end today."
 
The Lumberjacks lost the doubles point after dropping matches on courts one and two. Ana Karen Guadaiana Campos and Daryna Shoshyna fought hard on court one but were bested by the Lobos' top pairing 1-6. On court two, Laura Duhl and Patrycja Niewiadomska dropped their match 2-6.
 
Ava Neyestani and Dolavee Tumthong saw success on court three as they beast their opponents 6-3.
 
Ava Neyestani competed on court five for NAU, dropping her first set 1-6 before battling back in the second set. She kept things close throughout the set before eventually losing 4-6.
 
Andrea Noguera saw an easy victory on court six to earn the 'Jacks first point of the day with consecutive 6-3, 6-1 wins.
 
Patrycja Niewiadomska continued her dominance on court one as she earned another point for NAU. She easily won her first set 6-2 before taking the win in the second set 7-5.
 
Dolavee Tumthong took her first set 6-3 before dropping the second 1-6. She fought hard in the third set, eventually dropping it 3-6.
 
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos lost her first et 2-6 before coming back in the second to see an easy 6-2 victory. In a close third set she won 6-4 to earn the Lumberjacks their third point.
 
Court two saw a close competition, with Daryna Shoshyna winning 6-4 in the first set before pushing the second set to a tiebreaker. She eventually lost the second set 5-7 before dropping her third set 4-6.
 
NAU's Saturday match against Abilene Christian has been postponed, with an updated match time to come soon. Next week the 'Jacks will be back on the road, heading to Boulder, Colo. to take on Colorado.
