Women’s Tennis Closes Out Perfect Weekend with 6-1 Victory over Portland State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 31, 2024) – The NAU women's tennis team (5-10, 2-3) earned their second consecutive conference victory as they defeated the Portland State Vikings 6-1.
 
"It feels good to win at home and we needed it," said head coach Ewa Bogusz. "The girls needed it to get back into confidence mode and they earned it. They went after it in singles and they deserved to win."
 
Despite big efforts from the 'Jacks, the Vikings took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Laura Duhl and Patrycja Niewiadomska fell down 0-2 early in their doubles match on court two, battling back to 2-3 before eventually falling 2-6.
 
Daryna Shoshyna and Dolavee Tumthong saw a tough match on court one, falling 2-6 as the Vikings clinched the first point of the day. Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and Ava Neyestani saw a close match on court three, with the score tied at 4-4 before the match went unfinished to proceed to singles play.
 
After seeing an early 3-1 lead in the first set, Patrycja Niewiadomska easily took won 6-1. Niewiadomska was just as strong in the second set, also winning 6-1 to earn the first point of the match for NAU.
 
Ava Neyestani dominated on court five for NAU, jumping to a quick 3-0 lead and carrying that to a 6-0 first set victory. Neyestani continued to see success in the second set, easily taking a 6-3 win to earn the second point of the day.
 
Dolavee Tumthong fell down 0-1 in the first set on court four, but went on a 6-0 run to take the set 6-1. After quickly going up 5-0 in the second set, Tumthong earned another point for NAU with a 6-1 win.
 
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos fell behind 1-2 early in the first set no court two, but bounced back to a 6-4 victory. After going up 3-1 in the second set, Guadiana Campos saw a tough battle to a 6-4 win to clinch the match for the 'Jacks.
 
Laura Duhl saw a close match on court six, going up 3-2 in the first set before winning 6-4. In the second set, Duhl again went up 3-2 before the set was pushed to a tiebreaker which Duhl won 7-6 (7-1).
 
In a close first set on court three, Daryna Shoshyna pushed it to a tiebreaker after initially falling down 1-4. In the tiebreaker, Shoshyna won 7-1 to take the first set 7-6. Shoshyna took a quick 3-1 lead in the second set, going on to win the set 6-3 to earn the final point of the day for NAU.
