ARLINGTON, Texas (March 7, 2024) – Less than a week after claiming their 11th straight WAC Conference Championship, Northern Arizona head coach
Andy Johns has been awarded the 2024 WAC Women's Swimming Coach of the Year. Head diving coach
Nikki Kelsey has also been awarded with the 2024 WAC Women's Diving Coach of the Year, respectfully. And adding to the postseason awards, sophomore diver
Mackenna Stocker was awarded the 2024 WAC Women's Diver of the Year.
At the conference meet, Johns coached NAU to four gold medals in individual swimming events with
Maddy Rey capturing the 500-yard freestyle title,
Casey Craffey winning the 1650-yard freestyle,
Annie Carlton grabbing the gold in the 200-yard backstroke and
Maddy Rey closing things out with the 200-yard butterfly. On the relay side of things, NAU brought home the gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay and in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The 2023-2024 campaign is both the 28th season for Johns and Kelsey with the Lumberjacks. Since joining the WAC in 2005, this is the ninth time Johns has won the WAC Coach of the Year award. It is also the 10th WAC Coach of the Year award for Kelsey, respectfully.
In platform diving at the WAC Championships,
Mackenna Stocker set a new school record scoring 278.50 points. Stocker also helped capture the team event title along with
Grace Wesche and
Margaret Wesche at the conference championship. In addition, Stocker earned the silver on 3-meter with 306.30 points and took fourth place in the 1-meter with 287.80 points.
Starting on Monday, Kelsey will coach divers
Maegan Jensen,
Victoria Knapp,
Kendall Marquez,
Mackenna Stocker,
Grace Wesche and Maggie Wesche who all qualified for the NCAA Diving Zone E Championships, being held on the NAU campus.
