FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 11, 2024) – The NAU women' s tennis team (6-13, 3-5) defeated the Idaho Vandals 6-1 to close out regular-season conference play.
"I'm so happy, especially for the seniors," said head coach
Ewa Bogusz. "They all went undefeated today. It was one of those matches where things clicked, and even the non-seniors showed up and helped us get a win. It's bittersweet but I'm glad we finished at home with a win."
The 'Jacks began the day with a solid performance in doubles as they took the first point of the day.
Dolavee Tumthong and
Daryna Shoshyna saw an easy victory on court one as they defeated the top pair from Idaho 6-1.
Despite going up 2-1 early on court two,
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Andrea Noguera fell 6-2. In a close match on court three,
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and
Ava Neyestani pushed their match to a tiebreaker where they won 7-6 (7-2).
After dropping the first set on court six 6-0,
Andrea Noguera was down 1-0 in the second set before retiring.
On court three,
Dolavee Tumthong saw a strong performance, taking a quick 4-1 lead in the first set before winning 6-1. Looking just as dominant in the second set, Tumthong won 6-1 to earn the second point of the day for NAU.
Daryna Shoshyna took an early 4-1 lead in the first set on court five before taking the set 6-3. After going up 2-0 in the second set, Shoshyna won 6-2 to earn another point for the Lumberjacks.
Patrycja Niewiadomska was strong on court one for the 'Jacks, clinching the match victory with consecutive 6-3 set wins.
Ava Neyestani saw the first set on court four go to a tiebreaker, eventually winning 7-6. Neyestani's second set was also decided by a tiebreaker, with the NAU senior taking the point with a 7-5 second set win.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos fell 6-1 in the first set on court one, before bouncing back in the second set to push it to a tiebreaker before winning 7-6 (7-3). Campos won the final set 10-7 to earn the sixth point of the day for NAU.
