LA JOLLA, Calif. (April 19, 2024) – The NAU women's tennis team concluded their regular season with a 4-3 victory over the UC San Diego Tritons.
"The team has stayed resilient despite playing with five players and losing the doubles point," said graduate assistant coach Facundo Tumosa. "We were able to come back and win the match. Congratulations to Dolavee for clinching the match for us."
The Lumberjacks began their day with a tough doubles matchup, losing the first point of the match.
Daryna Shoshyna and
Dolavee Tumthong competed on court one for NAU, dropping their match 6-4.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and
Ava Neyestani pushed their match on court two to a tiebreaker, eventually falling 7-6 (9-7). NAU forfeited the match on court three, leading to the Tritons taking the first point of the day.
Patrycja Niewiadomska earned the first point for the 'Jacks with a win on court one. Niewiadomska won the first set 6-2 before her opponent was forced to retire.
Ava Neyestani earned the second point for NAU with consecutive 6-2 wins on court five.
Daryna Shoshyna won the first set on court four 6-2, continuing to dominate in the second set and win 6-0.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos won the first set on court two in a 7-5 tiebreaker. Despite putting up a strong fight, Campos fell in consecutive 6-2, 6-2 sets.
Dolavee Tumthong clinched the match victory for NAU on court three. Tumthong won the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker, dropping the second set 6-2 before bouncing back in the third set to win 6-4.
NAU forfeited the match on court six.
