Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 25, 2024) – The NAU women's tennis team fell in a close 4-3 match to No. 3 Sacramento State in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference Championships.
"We left it all out there," said head coach
Ewa Bogusz. "We gave ourselves a chance. From making it to the tournament, being on the edge of whether we're going to make it or not and then making it, the girls felt like we had a second chance. We left it all out there and Sac State was just better today."
The 'Jacks began their day with tough doubles matches, dropping the first point of the day.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos and
Ava Neyestani fell 6-1 on court three.
On court two,
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Andrea Noguera tied it at 4-4 before taking the match 6-4.
Daryna Shoshyna and
Dolavee Tumthong tied their match 2-2 on court before falling 6-3 as Sacramento State clinched the doubles point.
Ana Karen Guadiana Campos earned the first point of the day on court two in singles play. After going up 4-2 in the first set, Campos' opponent from Sacramento State was forced to retire.
On court five,
Ava Neyestani tied the first set 3-3 before falling 6-3. In the second set, Neyestani went up 2-1 early before dropping the set 6-4.
Dolavee Tumthong fell 6-0 in the first set on court three before bouncing back in the second set to win 6-2. In the third set, Tumthong took a quick 4-1 lead before winning 6-1 to earn the second point for NAU.
After winning the first set on court four 6-1,
Daryna Shoshyna fell in a close 6-4 set. Shoshyna saw a strong start to the second set, taking a 4-2 lead before winning 6-2 to earn the third point of the day for the 'Jacks.
Patrycja Niewiadomska saw a close match on court one, taking the first set in a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker. Niewiadomska fell 6-2 in the second set, fighting hard in the third set before falling 6-4.
Andrea Noguera took the first set on court six 6-3 before dropping the second set in a 7-5 tiebreaker. In a close third set, Noguera fell 6-4 as the Hornets clinched the match victory.
