FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 3, 2024) – The NAU track & field team will travel to Las Vegas this weekend as they compete at the UNLV Rebels Elite meet.
Last weekend, the team took a group of distance athletes to the Stanford Invitational where
Aliandrea Upshaw set a new 10,000-meter school record. The rest of the team also saw much success as multiple athletes set new PRs in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter.
Headlining the meet for the men's sprinters will be
Kyle Smith and
Khamis Hassan. Smith and Hassan are ranked second and third in the conference in the 100-meter, while Smith leads the league in the 200-meter.
Madeline Wilson will highlight the women's sprints groups, leading the conference in both the 100-meter and the 200-meter. Wilson will compete in the 200-meter this weekend.
Maggi Congdon will open her outdoor season as she competes in the too-meter, 800-meter, and 1,500-meter.
Riley Human will be the only men's distance athlete competing this weekend as he runs the 800-meter and 1,500-meter.
Mitchell Effing will compete in the triple jump and long jump this weekend. Effing leads the Big Sky in both events. Wilson will compete in the long jump along with
Brenna Rodriguez and
Kenashalee Kerr. Rodriguez is currently ranked fourth in the conference in the event.
Garret Bernt and
Parker Bays will headline the throws for the men, with Bernt competing in the discus and hammer throw and Bays competing in the shot put and hammer throw.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp will compete in the discus hammer throw for the women, with
Alaina Diggs competing in the hammer throw and shot put.
