FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 8, 2024) – The NAU track & field team is headed to Bozeman, Mont. as they begin postseason competition and look to defend their Big Sky titles.
Both the men's and women's teams are three-time defending Big Sky Champions, and look to complete their calendar sweep after already taking the cross country and indoor track & field conference titles.
Leading the men's team will be
Nico Young and
Colin Sahlman, who each own top times in the NCAA this season in the 1,500-meter. Young and Sahlman will each compete in the 800-meter and the 1,500-meter with Young also running the 5,000-meter.
Also competing in the 1,500-meter for the 'Jacks will be
Caleb Easton,
Brodey Hasty,
Aaron Las Heras,
Kang Nyoak, and
Ford Washburn.
Kyle Smith and
Khamis Hassan will highlight the men's sprints, each competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter. Smith is ranked first in the Big Sky in the 200-meter and third in the 100-meter, while Hassan is ranked sixth in the conference in the 100-meter.
Tyson Givens and
Zachary Taylor will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, returning to run the 400-meter hurdles with
Cannon Booker and
Ethan Seppala.
NAU has the top 4x100-meter relay in the Big Sky this season, and the second-ranked 4x400-meter relay.
Mitchell Effing will look to defend his title as Big Sky Outdoor Champion in the triple jump while cementing his place at the top of the conference in the long jump. Also competing in the long jump for NAU will be
Ian Lipsey and
Christian Mutengela. Mutengela, Effing, and
Sirr Butler will compete in the triple jump for the Lumberjacks.
Garret Bernt and
Parker Bays will lead the men's throws, with Bernt competing in the hammer throw and discus and Bays competing in the hammer throw and shot put. Bernt is ranked first in the conference in the hammer throw and third in the discus, while Bays is ranked first in the shot put and fourth in the hammer throw.
Karrie Baloga and
Maggi Congdon will highlight the women's distance, each seeing top marks in the conference. Baloga will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 1,500-meter, and 5,000-meter, while Congdon will compete in the 1,500-meter and the 800-meter.
Madeline Wilson will compete in the 100-meter and 200-meter, looking to cement her place at the top of the Big Sky as she leads the conference in both events.
Kyairra Reigh will compete in the 200-meter and the 400-meter, leading the conference in the 400-meter and ranking second in the 200-meter.
Kenashalee Kerr and
Brenna Rodriguez will each compete in the long jump and triple jump.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp will compete in the hammer throw and the discus, while
Alaina Diggs will compete in the shot put. Horne-Kemp ranks first in the Big Sky in the hammer throw and second in the discus, while Diggs ranks second in the shot put.
The Lumberjacks will compete at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships this Friday and Saturday. Live results for the meet can be found
