FARMINGTON, Utah (July 15, 2024) – Capping off a successful year in the classroom and in competition, a total of 51 Northern Arizona University student-athletes were named to the Big Sky Conference's Spring All-Academic Team, as announced this afternoon by the league office.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at their current Big Sky institution.

For indoor track and field student-athletes, they must have participated in at least half of the team's competitions or competed at the conference championship.

In all, the conference placed 667 golf, outdoor track and field, tennis and softball student-athletes across 10 institutions on the Spring version of the All-Big Sky Academic team.

The Lumberjacks were represented by five golfers, six men's and six women's tennis players, 21 women's outdoor track and field members plus 13 on the men's side to round out the selections. Of the 51 honorees, 12 student-athletes hold a perfect 4.0 GPA with 39 boasting GPAs over a 3.5.

Northern Arizona claimed two championships during the Spring season, including a regular season title for the men's tennis squad and the fourth-consecutive outdoor title by the women's track and field team. Additionally, women's golf finished runner-up at the Big Sky Championships where Lizzie Neale claimed the individual title after shooting a conference record 10-under. The women's tennis team also qualified for the Big Sky tournament while the men's track and field team placed runner up at the outdoor championships as well.

Together, the Northern Arizona Athletic Department had a lot to celebrate during the Spring semester, as Lumberjack student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.411 with 12 teams earning a GPA of a 3.2 or higher. Additionally, women's cross country, swimming and diving, soccer, volleyball and women's track turned in a GPA over 3.6.

Individually, 54% of the student-athlete body made the Dean's List, the highest-ever in department history with one out of every two student-athletes making the list. Ten teams had at least 50 percent of their roster on the Dean's List, with 87 student-athletes earning perfect 4.0 GPAs.

The NAU football program also celebrated its accomplishment of earning a 3.296 GPA, the highest in program history with 70 Northern Arizona student-athletes earning their degrees during the 2023-24 academic year.
