ALBUQUERQUE, NM (Sept. 10, 2024) - The Northern Arizona women's golf team finished up their third round of the Branch Law/Dick McGuire Invitational this morning playing 18 holes at the University of New Mexico's home Championship Course. The team shot a score of 303 (+15) in round three for a total of 892 (+28) for the tournament, placing them seventh in a field of 15.
"Yesterday's second round was very good and competitive. Sixth place after the first day against a really good field was nice," head coach Brad Bedortha said. "It lets our players know that we have a very good chance to be very competitive."
Sophomore Amy Hodgkins posted a score of 75 (+3), recording 15 pars and three bogeys. This would put her total at 222 (+6) and put her at tied 19th individually.Â
Junior Lizzie Neale also shot a score of 75 (+3) today, tallying 13 pars, four bogeys, and a birdie on the par-five hole number one. Matching Hodgkins, Neale's total would be 222 (+6) for the tournament, putting her also tied for 19th individually.
Fellow junior Ellena Slater had the lowest round from the Lumberjacks today shooting 74 (+2), carding 12 pars, four bogeys, and two birdies on holes four and 17. Her total for the tournament was 223 (+7) placing tied for 25th and climbing four spots on the board.

True freshman Ava Bates competed as an individual and shot 76 (+4) in her third round for a total score of 226 (+10). She placed tied for 34th in her debut tournament as a Lumberjack.
"Today we didn't play our best golf but there are still great things that happened. I'm extremely optimistic about the future with this team," Bedortha said. "Seventh place in this tournament is a step in the right direction for our program."
Overall, the Lumberjacks recorded 168 pars and 28 birdies for the tournament. Of all players in the field, Neale would record 40 pars which was tied for the second highest. In terms of par-5 scoring, Northern Arizona was -5, averaging 4.92 - this would be fourth best in the field.Â
The 'Jacks will head to Vail, Colorado in two weeks for the Golf Week Red Sky Classic on Sept. 23-25.
