FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 17, 2024) – NAU Women's Tennis kicks off their season this Sunday in Tucson where they will take on the Cal Poly Mustangs, followed by a Monday matchup with the Arizona Wildcats.
Sunday's meeting with the Mustangs marks the first meeting between the two programs. On Monday, Arizona will host the Lumberjacks. The last meeting between these schools was during the 2024 spring season when the Wildcats made their way to Flagstaff. NAU suffered a defeat with a score of 5-2.
Lumberjacks Daryna Shoshyna and Elen Jantacova will look to build off of the doubles success that they had in the fall season. The doubles pair is coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the ITA Regional Championships.
Patrycja Niewiadomska is seeking to pick up right where she left off from the last fall season, where she achieved a 10-9 singles record at the No. 1 position.
This will be the first team play event for the freshman Jantacova and Leontina Stojanovic. Jantacova won the doubles bracket in the Lumberjack Classic with her doubles partner Shoshyna. Stojanovic had a good show at the Lumberjack classic, winning her round robin by going undefeated, capturing two wins.
